TRAETH Porth Oer

TRAETH Porth OER

Rugged rocks with crystal clear tidepools in the secluded cove at the North end of “Whistling Sands” Beach on the Llŷn Peninsula, North Wales.

The popular nickname is due to the high pitched squeak or whistling noise when you walk across the sand. The science behind the phenomenon is fascinating - it seems the sand grains have to be between 0.1 & 0.5mm, spherical in shape & contain quartz & silica.
